McCann Equipment Ltd. is a privately-owned family business with dedicated, knowledgeable staff throughout the company. Customer service is our focus.
As an organization, McCann has evolved over the years to excel in torque & tensioning tools, calibration and repair services, application resolution and on-site consulting. We strive to offer our clients the very best in products and service. McCann Equipment Ltd. is ISO 17025 accredited and equipped with the latest state-of-the-art calibration equipment.
HOW WE GOT HERE:
James McCann “Jim” came to Montreal, Canada from Glasgow, Scotland when he was just a young boy. He joined the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in 1941 and then the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, 6th British Airborne Division and took part in Operation Varsity. Jim is a very proud Canadian veteran and a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
After returning to civilian life, Jim worked in the electric power tool industry and had seven children. It was a difficult decision for Jim to follow his passion and start a business at the age of 51, but his entrepreneurial spirit, and passion gave him the strength to take on the challenge. On St. Patrick’s Day, 1975, Jim’s adventure began with the first day of business for McCann Equipment Ltd.. In 2024, the company celebrated its 49th year in business and continues to grow.

– Jim McCann Sr.
In the early years of the company, a unique partnership began between McCann Equipment and Norbar Torque Tools of Banbury, England. McCann Equipment continues to represent the complete line of Norbar products exclusively in Canada. Over the years, other product lines like TorcUP (hydraulic torque wrenches, pumps and battery operated torque wrenches) and TONE Tool Co. (electric torque wrenches) to name a few, were added to expand McCann’s portfolio of torque tools. This would allow McCann Equipment to offer a wide spectrum of tools to address many types of bolting applications.
With our founder’s leadership and vision, the largest torque tool distributor network in Canada was built; with six of our seven (7) locations across Canada and one in the U.S., ISO 17025 accredited.
McCann Equipment is now a 2nd generation family business. Five of Jim’s children actively contribute to the business and help to carry on their father’s legacy. The company has been blessed and is proud to have had many long-term and dedicated management, sales and staff who have contributed to the growth and success of the company.
Jim Sr. passed away peacefully on December 22, 2021. He was 98 years old. Anyone who has had the pleasure to know Jim benefited from his entrepreneurial spirit, his zest for life and his courageous approach to the challenges we all face from time to time. He was passionate in his dealings with valued suppliers and customers alike and the relationships he forged over the years. Jim built quite a legacy, and we are forever grateful for the life lessons he taught us.
